What Calcova is
Calcova is an independent Canadian personal-finance calculator site. Every tool is free, works without a sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser — the salary, contribution and balance figures you type are never sent to us or to anyone else. We build the tools we wanted ourselves: ones that show the arithmetic instead of just printing a number.
Who writes this
Calcova is written and maintained by Ando Studio, a small independent web studio based in Edmonton, Alberta. We are not accountants, and we do not sell financial products, take advertising from financial institutions, or accept payment for placement in any calculator or comparison. That independence is the point: nothing on this site is steering you toward a product.
Where our numbers come from
Every rate, bracket, threshold and contribution limit is taken from the primary source that sets it — not from other calculators. For the 2026 tax year that means:
- Federal tax brackets, basic personal amount, CPP, CPP2 and EI — Canada Revenue Agency indexation and the annual CPP/EI rate announcements.
- Provincial brackets and personal amounts — each province's own budget and tax legislation.
- QPP, QPIP and the Quebec abatement — Revenu Québec and Retraite Québec.
- Registered account limits (RRSP, TFSA, FHSA) — CRA published contribution limits for the year.
Our full method — including how each calculator handles credits, what it deliberately leaves out, and when we update — is written up on our methodology page.
What we cover today
Take-home pay for Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec; US paycheck calculators for California, Texas, New York and Florida; and standalone tools for CPP & EI contributions, the CPP2 second tier, RRSP vs TFSA, FHSA vs RRSP, FHSA + Home Buyers' Plan stacking, mortgage affordability, debt payoff and crypto capital gains. We also publish plain-English guides explaining the rules behind them.
We would rather run a small number of calculators we can genuinely stand behind than a large number we cannot. In September 2026 we removed several thin auto-generated pages for exactly that reason.
What our calculators are not
They model the common case — typical T4 employment income with the basic personal amount — and they are estimates. They do not know about your other credits, benefits, self-employment income, stock options, support payments or an unusual filing situation, and they are not a substitute for advice from an accountant or for your official CRA assessment. See our disclaimer.
Tell us when we are wrong
If a number looks off, we want to hear about it — email hello@calcova.org with the calculator and the figure you expected. We check reports against the official source and correct them.
Also useful if you are self-employed
Freelancers and contractors who use our take-home-pay calculator to plan tax withholding often also need to send invoices. Our sister site BillSnap is a free, no-sign-up invoice generator — no watermark, nothing uploaded.
